About
Dartmouth Castle, a fortress overlooking the Dart Estuary, dates back to the 14th century. Its prominent position offers stunning views along the river. The castle, built to protect the entrance to Dartmouth Harbour, still holds military significance from its service in WW2.
Open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, the castle features a 15th-century tower, Victorian gun battery, and WW2 gun house. Information boards around the site provide insights into its history. The historic church of St Petrox is located within the grounds. Facilities include an on-site gift shop, independent tearoom, and toilets. Dogs on leads are welcome, and interactive displays engage younger visitors.
