About
Bernat Klein Studio, nestled beside the A707 near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders, was built in 1972 for Serbian-born designer Klein. Known for his collaborations with major European fashion houses, Klein's studio served as a workspace for design, weaving, and exhibiting samples. The building, described by Historic Environment Scotland as a 'very fine sculptural late Modernist building', is designed to harmoniously connect with its wooded setting. Despite its state of decline, the studio remains a masterpiece of structural elegance.
Open to the public, the studio offers a glimpse into the life and work of a renowned designer. Visitors can explore the two-storey concrete and brick structure, designed by one of Scotland's greatest brutalist architects, Peter Womersley.
