About
Cloch Lighthouse, a historical landmark in Unknown, has stood since 1797, designed by Thomas Smith and Robert Stevenson. It serves as a navigational aid on the Firth of Clyde, warning ships of The Gantocks, a shipping hazard. The lighthouse has been restored and is back in full use, offering visitors a glimpse into maritime history.
The site includes a short circular-section tower with a corbelled walkway and triangular windows. Foghorns were added between 1895 and 1897, enhancing its functionality. The location is scenic, with two generations of keepers' houses, one now used as stores and the other featuring crow-stepped gables.
