About
Firth Court stands as a historic and architectural gem within the University of Sheffield. Built in 1905, this Edwardian red brick building was designed by Sheffield architect Edward Mitchel Gibbs and was the first purpose-built structure for the new university. Originally known as the Western Bank Building, it was opened by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
Opened to the public, Firth Court is accessible with a wheelchair-accessible car park and entrance. It is home to the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology and features a distinctive quadrangle. The building is linked to the Florey Building and Alfred Denny via the Perak Teaching Labs.
