About
The Queensway Tunnel Ventilation Tower is a remarkable Art Deco landmark located at the Pier Head on Liverpool's waterfront. Built in the 1930s, it was designed by architect Herbert Rowse, who also designed the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and the India Building.
This iconic tower, faced with Portland stone, features sculptures and decorative friezes by Edmund Thompson and George Capstick. It stands as a testament to the engineering prowess of the inter-war era, having been the longest road tunnel in the world until 1948.
